Pre-Nursing Society General Meeting

Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at 7:00 PM

I.        T-shirts are here, both fun shirt and regular society shirt.

a.     PLEASE PAY AND PICK UP AFTER MEETING!!!! $8.00 each, checks to UTSA or cash

II.      Election on New Treasurer

a.     Requirements: This semester we have officer and general meetings on Tuesdays at 7:00 PM you must be able to attend every Tuesday meeting

b.     Basic bookkeeping technique for all money transactions

c.     Deposit/withdraw money from UTSA account, requires paperwork and signatures

d.     Do other duties as assigned

III.    Halloween Party

a.     Please sign up for food, drink, candy, plates, cups, etc. on sheet coming around

b.     You are assigned to bring this PLEASE bring it!!!!

c.     We will be talking about the application process to UTHSC

                                                               i.      Discussing date the application is due

                                                             ii.      Interview process

                                                            iii.      Tips for the TEAS test

IV.  Halloween Parade at University Hospital

a.     We need 6 volunteers that can be at University Hospital from 1-3:30

b.     Dress up in costume

c.     Spread Halloween cheer in an APPROPRIATE COSTUME!!!!!!!!!

V.     Mentors/Mentees

a.     Remember to keep in contact with your mentor or mentee!!! Stay after meeting if you see them to see how they are doing! J

VI.  Thanksgiving Food Drive

a.     If you know of a needy family that needs Thanksgiving dinner please share their story

b.     Collecting /packages of:

                                                               i.      Green beans

                                                             ii.      Corn

                                                            iii.      Sweet potatoes

                                                          iv.      Instant brown gravy

                                                           v.      Instant dressing

c.     We will be collecting at upcoming meetings and then purchasing turkeys with our dues money

d.     We will deliver the food to the families on November 19 and 20

o        FREE!!! Brackenridge Park, Joske Pavillion

o        Walkers must raise a minimum of $100 to receive a t-shirt

Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at 7:00 PM

I.        We have already ordered t-shirts they should be ready by next meeting. Remember if you ordered the fun shirt or the PNS shirt they are $8.00 each.

a.     PLEASE PAY AFTER MEETING!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

II.     Mentors/Mentees

a.     Some of you received a mentor/mentee last time if you did not you will receive one today.

b.     Please stay after meeting to talk with mentor and exchange contact information

c.     It is important to have a line of communication so any questions can be answered

o        Fee: $15.00---will receive t-shirt

·         Saturday, October 13 9am-? CPR Certification here at UTSA with American Heart Association

o        $35 per student

o        Certification lasts for 2 years and is REQUIRED to get into nursing school

    2. T-shirts for next semester
      1. Vote for t-shirt designs
      2. Decide on colors
      3. Order forms for t-shirts (pay after meeting!)
  1. Homework Study Groups
    1. Study group lists have been made
    2. It is up to you to form the study group from the names and numbers provided
    3. If you lose your sheet you can find the list on the bulletin board in the Science Building
    4. Great way to get notes you missed, study together, and ask any questions you have!!
  1. Big Brother/Big Sister Mentor Program
    1. This is a way to partner new pre-nursing students with experienced pre-nursing students
    2. Great way to get some guidance and have some automatic friends
    3. Receive your Big Brother/Big Sister or Little Brother/Little Sister
    4. Please stay a few minutes after meeting to get contact information and introduce yourself

    1. If you are in a class that you would be interested in forming a study group or getting contact for others in those classes for notes, help, etc. please fill out the CLASSES YOU ARE INTERESTED IN!!!!
    2. We will put a list of the people on the bulletin board so you can easily contact them for study groups, questions, notes, or anything else
